Ato Koomson, the son of the Awutu Senya East MP and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, got caught up in a nasty incident near the Electoral Commission’s office. Apparently, there was a big confusion that ended with him being stabbed.
Here's the scoop: Ato was in really bad shape when they rushed him to the 37 Military Hospital. Thankfully, he's getting the care he needs now. But he wasn't the only one hurt—another person got injured too during this whole fiasco.
So, what went down? Well, an eyewitness mentioned that it all started when supporters of the ruling NPP and the opposition NDC couldn't agree on the lineup for the voter ID card transfer and replacement exercise. People usually save spots in the queue with chairs, and a quarrel over one particular chair kicked off around 4:00 AM.
Ato showed up about 45 minutes into the ruckus and tried to step in to sort things out. He approached the NDC organizer at the registration center to help calm things down. But things took a turn for the worse when another NDC supporter started hurling verbal abuse at him.
Both Ato and King Adawu were taken to the hospital. King Adawu was treated and sent home, but Ato had to be admitted due to the severity of his injuries.
The police have since arrested two people in connection with the stabbing. They haven't released the names yet, but sources say the suspects are from the NDC.
