ChatGPT Banned - See where and why.

ChatGPT has been blocked in Italy, making it the first Western nation to take such action against the advanced chatbot.

According to the Italian data protection authority, there are privacy issues associated with ChatGPT, a model developed by US-based start-up OpenAI and supported by Microsoft. The regulatory body has announced its plans to immediately investigate and prohibit OpenAI.

ChatGPT is an advanced chatbot created by OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research laboratory in the United States. It is based on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture and is designed to simulate human conversation by generating natural language responses to user inputs. ChatGPT has been trained on a vast amount of data from the internet and is capable of answering a wide range of questions, carrying out tasks, and engaging in casual conversation with users.

Microsoft has recently integrated ChatGPT, an advanced chatbot developed by OpenAI, into its search engine Bing. The company has also announced plans to incorporate a version of the technology into its Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Despite its potential benefits, AI technology like ChatGPT has raised concerns about its impact on job displacement, as well as the potential spread of misinformation and bias. These concerns have prompted calls from prominent tech figures, such as Elon Musk, to suspend the development of such systems.

The Italian regulatory body stated that it would not only prevent OpenAI's chatbot from functioning but would also examine whether it adhered to the General Data Protection Regulation. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regulates the manner in which personal data can be utilized, processed, and stored.

According to the regulatory body, on March 20th, the application encountered a data breach that affected both user discussions and payment details. The body maintained that there was no legal justification for collecting and retaining personal data on a large scale for the purpose of training the platform's algorithms. It also contended that since it was impossible to confirm the age of users, the application put minors at risk by providing them with responses that were unsuitable for their level of development and awareness.

  2. I personally use it. It has helped me get loads of ideas for certain projects. It will be a shame if this program is banned globally. But I guess caution should be taken in it's development to avoid privacy issues
