Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, has submitted her resignation following a scandal involving the alleged theft of foreign and local currencies by her house helps at her residence. In a letter addressed to the President, she stated her decision to step down to prevent the matter from becoming a distraction to the government's crucial work at this time.
The incident came to light on July 21, when it was revealed that two of the Minister's house helps, Patience Botwe (18 years old) and Sarah Agyei (30 years old), were facing charges before an Accra Circuit Court for supposedly stealing $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis from her home in Abelenkpe, Accra, between July and October 2022. The charges included one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing.

Cecilia Dapaah contested the figures reported by the media, asserting that they did not accurately represent what she and her husband had reported to the Police. Nevertheless, she acknowledged the gravity of such stories circulating about someone in her position and expressed her willingness to cooperate fully with state agencies to establish the facts. She was confident that, after the investigation, her integrity would be vindicated, and she would be cleared of all the allegations.
