More cash reportedly found in Cecilia Dapaah’s house; takes officers of OSP 5 hours to count

Officials from the Office of the Special Prosecutor recently made a significant cash discovery during their search of both the private and official residences of former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Dapaah, located in Abelemkpe and Cantonments.

According to a report by TV3's Eric Mawuena Egbeta, the amount of money found was substantial, requiring five hours to complete the counting process. Dapaah was arrested on Monday by the OSP and underwent extensive questioning related to alleged corruption. After the interrogation, her private residences were searched before she was granted bail later in the evening.

This arrest came in the wake of public uproar following revelations in court documents that the Minister had large sums of money, including $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Cedis, kept in her house, which were allegedly stolen by her domestic staff. The said staff, Patience Botwe (18) and Sarah Agyei (30), have since been arrested and are scheduled to reappear in court on Wednesday, August 2, after being granted bail.

The scandal has triggered strong reactions among a majority of Ghanaians, who are demanding her prosecution. Meanwhile, in Mpasatia, the hometown of the former Minister, some residents have praised her domestic workers for the theft, considering them brave and clever for their actions.

Citi TV engaged with the residents to gather their opinions on the matter, resulting in mixed reactions. While some lamented the lack of development in the area, including poor infrastructure and high unemployment rates, and accused politicians of neglecting them while amassing personal wealth, others defended Dapaah, believing she might not have done anything wrong.

A particular resident, captured on the footage, applauded the alleged thieves for their actions, viewing the theft of the ex-Minister's money as a means for them to improve their lives. It is important to handle the situation with proper legal procedures to ensure a fair resolution to this complex and contentious issue.
